The Beauty of Pastels

Working with Pastels we will learn composition, the value of
value, the beauty of contrast, and the importance of balance.
We will explore space, shape and movement. As we advance our art
will fill with the Impressionists use of colors and light.
Demonstrations, Individual Attention, and Critiques.
This is a supportive, challenging, non-threatening
and fun environment.

Drop-in Figure Drawing Group
Ongoing Mondays, 7:00 - 10:00 pm
Cost: $15.00/session
Bring your own easel if possible: limited equipment available
as we begin this new group. All mediums welcome.
If you paint in oil, please be prepared to clean your brushes
and materials at home to keep the space solvent free.
Last Monday of each month will be one 3 hour pose.
Cash register will stay open during class if you need supplies!
Please come to the back door, located on Julia Street between
A and B, and ring the doorbell to be let in.

Portraits and the Clothed Model

For beginners as well as advanced students this class will focus
on the portrait, expressive hands and the beauty of garments and
drapery. We will draw and
paint from a live model, and students may use any dry or liquid
medium with the exception of solvents and toxic materials. Short
discussions and/or demonstrations on color, shading, proportions,
etc. as interest dictates.

Watercolor Portraits from a Live Model

Introduction To Plein Air Painting

3 Wednesdays, November 5, 12, 19
1:30pm-4:30pm
Cost: $120 for all three or $50 per workshop.
These Workshops are for Beginners and Experienced Novices (those
who have been painting for less than a year).
If you've never painted, or if the "how-to" books aren't
clear enough, this progression of workshops is for you. In each
class, we will complete a 9 x 12 landscape painting that you can
take home and hang! We'll get acquainted with composition, color
harmony, brushwork and perspective (linear and atmospheric). In
the process, you will become organized to paint a simple landscape
"en plein air" (outdoors) with confidence and enjoyment.
The classes will start with the basics and build from there. You'll

Lights - Camera - Claymation!

6 Mondays: October 20th - November 24th
4:15pm - 5:30pm
$195 for all 6 sessions
Children, teens and adults of all ages are welcome to come explore
and discover the joy, fulfillment and creative potential of Claymation.
Using clay, found objects, art supplies, a computer and a digital
camera you can learn to easily animate your creations and make
movies. This fun and multi-faceted process integrates all the
creative aspects of hands-on immediacy, planning, cooperation
and patience on one stage. You will learn the basics for creating
a Claymation movie. The only difference between you and the professional
movies makers will be the amount of time and equipment you dedicate
to your project.
In this class you will have the opportunity to learn to:
Build an armature (wire skeleton) and make your clay characters
Create a stage set with foreground, middle ground and background,
Play - work cooperatively with others
Think in terms of time and motion
Learn about stop motion software
Create "pieces" of your movie and stitch them together
with computer software.
Have fun completing a long-term multi faceted project
Students and parents will see the huge potential that Claymation
has for science assignments. You can animate physics principles,
chemical models, biological processes, ecology and more. Learning
Claymation opens up your potential to impress your classmates
and teachers with your original animation for a class presentation.

Plein Air Painting - Free Demo

One of the most often overlooked aspects of landscape painting
is that of Atmospheric Perspective. Ed will discuss and demonstrate
this important element of fine art while creating a complete oil
painting during the process. He'll also be discussing the alla
prima and plein air processes as he paints. In addition, there'll

Greetings a la Card

6 Saturdays, November 8 to December 13 (no meeting November 29)
2-4 PM
$225, materials included
$50 drop-in by pre-arrangement
Design and produce unique Greeting Cards, appropriate for this
holiday season (or for any other) or to give for special, heartfelt
occasions.
Two-Dimensional Design: Play with the basic elements such
as shape, balance and rhythm & repetition.
Surface & Relief Prints: Build 'plates' using easily
manipulated printmakers' materials.
Printmaking: Use a printing press to repeat your design
again and again.
Monochromania: Design and print a series of cards, black
on white.
Polychromania: Play with color & multiple overlays.
Paper Making: "Couch" sheets from Abaca pulp.
Keep themplain or blend-in sparkles, colors and textures.
Paper Marbling: Play with a variety of techniques which
will yield myriad colorful designs (and a few oohs and ahs) on
paper and on commercial stationery.
Collage: Assemble shapes of hand-made & marbled papers,
unusual commercial papers and found textures to create one-of-a-kind
stationery.

Threshold Workshop

how to do. In the Threshold workshops we look at where we stop
ourselves, then use painting and writing to explore the relationship
between authenticity and creativity. No artistic skills are required.

the "conceptual mind." We paint, write, make monotypes,
collage, and tell some stories, all directed at impacting your
creative life.

work in. Because it is not like other mediums, Barbara recommends
studying with a good teacher for a time to establish a solid understanding
of how to handle them.

and is one of the best in this area. She will be doing a landscape
in pastel right before your eyes. She will talk about shapes,
light & values, color harmonies and contrasts, and how to

"Artspiration" Children's
Art class
